Delhi is target of terror groups: Chidambaram

By IANS,

New Delhi: The Indian capital is on the radar of terror groups, Home Minister P. Chidambaram said Wednesday, while identifying the blast outside the Delhi High Court as a terror attack.

Chidambaram, however, refrained from identifying the attackers or the group that planted the powerful bomb hidden in a suitcase. Nine people were killed and 47 injured, some seriously, the minister told the Lok Sabha.

He said the multiple-agency investigations had started. “At this stage, it is not possible to identify the group that caused the bomb blast today.

“Delhi is the target of terrorist groups. When parliament is in session and during certain other times of the year, Delhi is placed on high alert,” Chidambaram said.

He said intelligence agencies constantly share information with Delhi Police on terror threats.

“Intelligence pertaining to threat emanating from certain groups was shared with Delhi Police in July 2011,” he said, but did not elaborate if the input was specifically related to what happened Wednesday.

“We are clear that there is no cause that will justify the terrorist act,” he said.
