Security alert in Kolkata following Delhi blast

Kolkata: A security alert has been sounded in this West Bengal capital following the Delhi High Court blast that claimed 11 lives Wednesday.

Checking at the entry and exit points of the city was tightened after police received an alert.

“We have received an alert. Therefore, we are taking all types of security arrangements. Security arrangements are being tightened,” Commissioner of Police R.K. Pachnanda said.

The Kolkata Police has instructed all its divisions to conduct security checks at hotels, malls, parking lots and other important places to avoid any untoward incident.

Divisional commissioners, assistant commissioners and officer in charges of police station have also been ordered to undertake checks at their divisions and police stations.

In addition of setting up barricades to check vehicles, number of security personnel deployed around the Calcutta High Court premises, the city sessions court and the district court at Alipore have also been increased.

Plainclothes policemen have been placed at important places of the city. Landlords have been asked to provide details of their tenants to police as an added measure.

Security has also been beefed up at the Howrah station premises.
