The report was presented before special judge Sangeeta Dhingra Sehgal via fax.

“During his stay, the patient has not made any medical complaint. Presently his vitals are being monitored at central jail and his general condition is stable,” said a senior medical officer of Central Jail No.3 where Amar Singh is lodged.

The jail superintendent stated that Amar Singh has been kept in a separate ward which has an exhaust fan, separate toilet-cum-bathroom and a fan.

This comes after the special court hearing the cash-for-votes scandal asked the prison officials to file a report on the condition of Amar Singh who has applied for bail on medical grounds. He has been remanded in judicial custody in connection with the case till Sep 19.

The jail superintendent also said that in view of Amar Singh’s health condition, an ambulance has been kept outside the jail. Moreover, he has been placed in a cell which is the closest to the jail hospital. Also, an attendant has been kept outside his jail, the report said.

Singh’s blood and urine tests have been conducted but the reports are awaited. The court, which accepted the application, has directed the jail authorities to submit the report by Sep 12 and fixed the matter for argument.

Singh was reviewed Sep 8 by Dr. R.S. Ahalawat, nephrologist of LNJP hospital.

Meanwhile, the medical officer has complained that even after repeated requests, Singh has not submitted his previous medical treatment records.

The court might also pronounce its order on Singh’s bail plea Sep 12.

Defence counsel Hari Haran had sought the MPs interim bail on medical grounds.

“Amar Singh is not well. He is suffering from various medical problems like diabetes, hyper-tension, tuberculosis infection, chronic kidney disease and urinary tract infection. In such a condition, if he (Singh) is kept in jail, his health will deteriorate,” defence counsel earlier said.

Amar Singh and two former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs – Fagan Singh Kulaste and Mahavir Singh Bhagora – were arrested Tuesday for their alleged involvement in the attempt to bribe MPs ahead of the July 2008 parliament trust vote.

On July 22, 2008, three BJP MPs waved wads of currency notes in the Lok Sabha ahead of a trust vote, alleging they were given the money to vote in favour of the Manmohan Singh government.

The charge sheet alleged that during investigation “sufficient evidence” came on record that on the morning of July 22, 2008, Amar Singh “hatched a criminal conspiracy with his secretary Sanjeev Saxena to deliver cash of Rs.1 crore as illegal gratification”.
