Blast at a private hospital near Taj Mahal leaves 6 wounded

New Delhi: At least six people were injured in a crude bomb blast in Jai Hospital, about three kms from Taj Mahal in Agra on Saturday evening. Most of the people have got minor injuries and are being treated at the same hospital. Inspector General of Agra Zone, PK Tiwari has said that the bomb was kept in a bag under a chair in the reception area. The ATS and forensic teams have reached the spot.

Meanwhile, Home Secretary RK Singh has said that batteries and wires were found on the spot. According to PTI news agency, Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was used in the blast.

The explosion occurred at 5:45 pm breaking windowpanes in the reception area of the 70-bed Jai Hospital, a private hospital hardly 3 km from Taj. Reports say that 10 to 15 people were seated in steel chairs when the bomb exploded.
Security around the 17th century monument of love in Agra is already beefed up as it has been on the radar of terrorists. However, the officials have not yet confirmed that the Saturday explosion was a terror blast.

Patients have been evacuated from the hospital and police cordoned off the entire area and conducted an intensive combing operation.
