Congress hits back at BJP over 2G note

By IANS,

New Delhi : The Congress Wednesday hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for “raising baseless allegations” over the finance ministry note on the 2G spectrum.

“The BJP is betraying its frustration and failure to capture power,” Congress spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi said at a press briefing at the party headquarters here.

According to Singhvi, the allegations BJP leaders like Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley are levelling these days are the same ones which had been raised in the “arguments by Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy” in his case against Home Minister P. Chidmabaram in the Supreme Court.

“It is improper to pronounce a judgment on a sub-judice matter. But the BJP is making the judgement left, right and centre,” he added.

Singhvi said the note sent by the finance ministry was a routine right to information (RTI) reply. “A different perception of a policy cannot be turned into an issue of criminality ” he said.

The note sent in March this year had said that the 2G spectrum could have been auctioned in 2008, if the then finance minister P. Chidambaram had acted.

Saying that the note proved infighting in the cabinet, the BJP had demanded the resignation of Chidambaram.

The Congress spokesman said the BJP’s frustration was reflected in the increasing trend by the party in disrupting the parliament’s functioning in the recent years.

“If BJP stops telling untruths against us, we will stop telling the naked truths about them,” Singhvi quipped.
