Kolkata : West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya Monday said that “true” Left-minded people would return to the fold despite protesting against the government on the Nandigram issue.
“Those who are true Leftists and have joined the agitation would come back to our fold,” Bhattacharya told reporters at state secretariat Writers’ Buildings.
“Others who are in the agitation are those who never got a chance to speak,” Bhattacharya said, a day after the city’s leading intellectuals were manhandled by police at the city’s cultural arena near the Nandan film complex for protesting the violence in Nandigram.
Leading intellectuals, including filmmakers Aparna Sen, Rituparno Ghosh, Gautam Ghosh and several others have boycotted the ongoing 13th Kolkata Film Festival (KFF).
Violence in Nandigram has claimed 34 lives since January, when the region flared up over proposed land acquisition for a special economic zone (SEZ).
