No president’s rule in Andhra, says Congress

New Delhi : The Congress party has ruled out impositiion of president’s rule in Andhra Pradesh in the wake of the volatile situation in the Telangana region, where the agitation for a separate state continued for the 27th day Saturday.

“There is no question of president’s rule for the moment,” Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is also in charge of the Congress affairs in Andhra Pradesh, told reporters after a high-level meeting attended by chief negotiator and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, other central ministers, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy and state leaders.

“Today’s meeting is a part of the consultation process,” said Azad, who last week submitted to the party central leasdership a report on the situation in the state.

He said a solution to the statehood issue may not be found “in a day or two”.
