Shimla : Voting was underway Wednesday in the Shimla municipal corporation elections contested mainly by the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Apart from the two parties, the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) also made its presence felt in the intense campaigning this time.
Some 112,352 voters are eligible to cast their votes between 7 a.m. and 4 a.m. at the 150 polling booths spread across the resort town. There are 94 candidates in the fray for 25 wards.
Congress has held on to power ever since the Shimla municipal corporation was formed in 1986.
The election results will be declared Friday.
