Sydney : One of Australia’s most wanted men has been arrested at Sydney Airport over a fatal gun fight in 2009, police said Tuesday.
New South Wales police expect to charge the man with murder after he returned to Sydney on a flight from Vietnam Tuesday morning, reported Xinhua.
Anthony Tan, the 27-year-old man, was taken into custody on Tuesday about 10 a.m. at Sydney Airport.
Detectives expect to charge the man with the shooting murder of a 23-year-old man in Campbelltown, Sydney’s southwest, Jan 9, 2009.
Tan left Australia days after the shooting and went to Vietnam, which has no extradition treaty with Australia.
Detective Sergeant Keith Bristow told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation that Tan contacted police through his lawyer in recent days and said he wanted to surrender himself.
Tan has reportedly said he was surprised to discover he had been added to New South Wales’ “most wanted” list.
He voluntarily returned to Australia from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, police said.
