Kolkata : Keeping in mind the increasing instances of railway blockades causing inconvenience to passengers, the Indian Railways’ Passenger Amenities Committee has recommended that a proper mechanism be set up to tackle the menace, along with several other measures to improve passenger services and safety.
“Rail roko (blockade) have been on the rise causing great inconvenience to the passengers. We have suggested a mechanism be set up so that prior information of such events is available with the authorities so that they can take preventive and suitable measures,” committee chairman Suvarasanna told IANS.
He, however, refused to elaborate.
The committee has submitted several recommendations including provision of comfortable stairs in coaches for easily climbing to the upper berth, use of fluorescent lights in trains and stations for better visibility and uniform colours and signboards at all stations.
“The rail magazine ‘Rail Bandhu’ has been a big success. So we are planning to include more informative articles as well as mulling publishing the same in several languages,” said Suvaprasanna, a famed painter.
With incidents of children getting injured and killed while boarding a moving train or attempting stunts on the rise, the committee has suggested ways to prevent these.
“Children sweeping the trains and begging for alms is a nuisance and the authorities have been asked to tackle the menace.”
