In his concluding remarks at the National Development Council (NDC) meeting here, the prime minister said that some states had raised concern about discrimination but it was not based on reality.

“The centre is determined to treat all states fairly,” he said.

Manmohan Singh said the central government tends to provide more support to poorer states but it does not mean discrimination.

Some opposition chief ministers, including Tamil Nadu’s J. Jayalalithaa, had in their speeches at the NDC meeting accused the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government of step-motherly treatment.
