Notorious Maharashtra gangster killed

By IANS,

Pune : Notorious gangster Rakesh Dholakiya alias Mahakali, who had over 30 cases against him, was Tuesday killed in a gunfight at a town near this Maharashtra city, police said.

He was killed at Dehu Road, a Pune district town 30 km from the city.

“Acting on a tip-off, we went to the spot where Mahakali was hiding. A team of 10 police officials cordoned off the spot and asked him to surrender. But he started firing at them,” Inspector Ram Jadhav of Dehu Road police station told IANS.

“Despite repeated warnings, he kept shooting and refused to surrender. One of our officers shot back in defence, which injured Mahakali. He was immediately taken to hospital but later succumbed to injuries,” Jadhav added.

The gangster had many cases against him, including of open firing at police, cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property.

Mahakali and his gang members had in June 2010 opened fire on a police team of Dehu Road. One of his aides was arrested in that case.
