Bangalore : Former Karnataka Lokayukta and Team Anna member N. Santosh Hegde Wednesday rejected the government’s Lokpal bill as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been kept out of its purview.
Without CBI under its ambit, the Lokpal will be just a complainant and not an investigator, the former Supreme Court judge told reporters here.
The Lokpal bill, which the cabinet cleared Tuesday, will be introduced in parliament Thursday.
“The Lokpal can only enquire and leave the investigation to the CBI. The CBI will be answerable to the government and not Lokpal. The Lokpal will only be an enquiry officer,” he said.
Anna Hazare has also rejected the government bill and is sticking to his three-day fast threat from Dec 27 to be followed by a ‘jail bharo’ campaign.
