Smoke from AMRI Hospital triggers panic

“Actually, gas was coming out of some machines in the hospital. But the fire brigade brought the situation under control within few minutes. There is nothing to worry,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (south eastern division) Basab Dasgupta said.

In the worst fire tragedy in any hospital in India, 94 patients and staffers were killed in the AMRI Hospital when a blaze started in the basement of the annexe building Dec 9 and quickly spread, trapping hundreds of people.

The building has been sealed after the accident.
