Islamabad : Pakistani Taliban factions have announced they will not attack security forces in the country and instead focus their attention against the US-led forces in Afghanistan, a media report said Monday.
A five-member council of the Taliban has succeeded in obtaining a promise from the militant groups in Pakistan to not attack the security forces in the country.
The team was sent from Afghanistan on the directive of the supreme leader of the Taliban, Mulla Mohammad Omar.
After weeks of hectic efforts, the team managed to bring different militant groups on a single platform, Geo TV reported.
The militants also pledged to end suicide attacks, kidnappings for ransom and killing of innocent people.
Mulla Omar was not happy with the Pakistani Taliban for carrying out attacks on innocent people, Geo TV said quoting Taliban sources.
The Taliban leader was worried over Pakistani militants diverting their attention from Afghanistan and making it difficult for the Afghan Taliban to continue their resistance against the coalition forces.
Mulla Omar wanted the Pakistani Taliban groups to focus on Afghanistan, where “their fight against the foreign forces is in a decisive phase”, the report said quoting Taliban sources.
The groups that pledged to work with the Afghan Taliban, included the Maulvi Nazeer group, Hakimullah Mahsud group, Maulana Waliur Rahman group, Hafiz Gul Bahadur group and the Haqqani Network.
