Kolkata: Firdausi Begum, a young Muslim woman was awarded by the West Bengal [WB] police for her bravery and was recommended for the national bravery award. She without any fear went ahead in informing the police regarding a robbery that took place in her house on 22 December 2011. She took the risk of informing the police on a timely basis with her observations and understandings on the timings and movement of the cops in and around the vicinity of her home.

Finished with her studies up to Madhyamik (Secondary) Examination from Satinda High School, she is now a house wife being married six months ago. On the day the robbery happened, she was back from her husband’s house to stay in her father’s house in Taiti village as her father Hassan Ali was off to the hospital, to take care of her mom, who was admitted there. On that day, late night the robbers were in to her residence.
She soon had doubts regarding the involvement of a mason in the robbery, who had earlier worked in their house. She identified the time the cops were moving in the vicinity of her house and based on the information provided the police were successful in arresting the robbery team. Police recovered stolen house hold materials, five Bhari gold ornaments, two firearms, an Omni Van, police uniform etc from them. Police also arrested a Jewellery Business man Shyamal Pramanik, due to his alleged connections with the robbery team.
Superintendent of Police Burdwan, Humaun Kabir told media that, Firdaus Begum’s assistance have helped them in capturing a notorious robbery gang, who have been robbing several villages since months. He awarded a trophy to her and told that her name will be recommended for the national bravery award this time.
