New Delhi : The National Human Rights Commission recommended that the Uttar Pradesh government should pay Rs.25,000 each to three prisoners who were ill-treated by the prison authorities in Bhadohi district.
The commission had taken sou motu cognizance of media reports over ill-treatment of prisoners Aug 23, 2011 and sought reports from the state government.
In response to the commission’s notices, Uttar Pradesh prison officials said that the then in-charge of jail, deputy jailor and two others were found responsible for causing inhuman treatment to the prisoners.
An police case was also registered against them. A departmental inquiry was also recommended in the matter, they said.
