Bangalore : While Cupid-struck lovers were busy exchanging roses, gifts and greeting each other to celebrate Valentine’s Day, about 1,000 denizens of this tech hub ran a marathon for a healthy heart Tuesday.
The ‘Run for your Loved Ones’ marathon was flagged off by World Athletics champion Anju Bobby George from Apollo Hospital campus on Bannerghatta road to Hulimavu junction in the city’s upscale southern suburb and back.
“About 1,000 citizens from all walks of life, including young and old, men and women, joined the marathon, organised to foster a sense of responsibility among Bangaloreans to adopt heart healthy measures,” Apollo Hospital chief executive Umapathy Panyala told reporters here.
As a multi-specialty healthcare chain, the hospital has been involved in ensuring holistic health and fitness to overcome the present day high-stress, jet-paced lifestyle.
“A healthy lifestyle goes a long way in not only protecting one’s own health but also in ensuring the well-being of their loved ones,” Panyala said.
Stressing on the importance of a healthy lifestyle for ensuring heart-health, cardiologist Sathyaki Nambala said that a commitment towards one’s health ensures positive results and leads to one being in a win-win situation.
“Factors that lead to deterioration in one’s heart-health are numerous and can affect people of all ages and backgrounds. Early adoption of a healthy lifestyle will help one combat multiple diseases and stay protected from mortal ailments. Take the pledge this Valentine’s Day to keep your heart happy and your loved ones well,” Nambala pointed out.
