Chennai : Here’s heartening news from the city where a teenager murdered his teacher. The ex-students of a Chennai school have decided to sponsor the health checkup of their teachers.

“They won our hearts, and we would like to take care of theirs,” quipped Srividya Baradwaj, an alumni from the 1991-92 batch of students of The Hindu Senior Secondary School.

“Alumni have always been involved in the construction of classrooms and hostels, it is a given. We wanted to do something different for the well being of our teachers and other staff with whom we interacted closely in our school days,” Baradwaj told IANS.

The alumni have decided to sponsor the master health checkup cost of serving and retired teachers and staff numbering around 100. The programme will be held at the school Sunday.

She said Rs.150,000 was pooled in for the camp called “Love Your Hearts”, and hoped it becomes an annual feature.

Only a week ago, a young student stabbed his teacher to death in one of the oldest schools of Chennai. He was angry that she had pulled him up for poor academic performance.
