High demand for child care nurses in China

By IANS,

Beijing : China may witness a baby boom this year following the common belief that children born in the Year of the Dragaon will be endowed with good luck and have a propitious life. This has led to a high demand for “yuesaos” or confinement nurses.

The confinement nurses, called “yuesao”, take care of new mothers and their infants for a brief period, especially the first month after the baby’s birth, the China Daily reported.

“The number of people asking for information about ‘yuesaos’ has surged since the start of the year,” said Li Lin, a communications officer at Baby Care & Education Co Ltd, a maternity business.

A confinement nurse is much more than a babysitter. She is in charge of the diet of both the mother and the baby, the physical recovery of women after childbirth and the care of babies both mentally and physically.

Chinese people consider it vital for mothers and new-born babies to have an experienced and professional confinement nurse taking care of them in the ‘yuezi’ (confinement) period because of their concerns over health.
