Two modified P3C Orion long-range reconnaissance aircraft were inducted into the PN Fleet at Naval Aviation Base Tuesday, reported Dawn.

Terrorists had destroyed two P3C Orion aircraft during a 15-hour siege that began on the night of May 22 last year at the PNS Mehran base and led to the death of 14 people, including four terrorists.

The American aircraft have been modified with latest avionics and part of US assistance being provided to Pakistan Navy under Foreign Military Funding programme.

Pakistan is to receive six such aircraft in three batches of two each.

An official said the two aircraft were not replacement for the two planes that were destroyed by terrorists during the attack on the Karachi naval base.
