New Delhi : External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna Thursday inaugurated the new passport office here, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for processing nearly a thousand applications per day.

The sprawling passport office at Herald House near ITO in central Delhi is the 50th Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) in the country.

Inaugurating the passport office in the presence of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur, Krishna reaffirmed the government’s firm commitment to providing timely delivery of passport services to Indian citizens.

Last year, 7.365 million passport services were rendered through the network of 37 Passport Offices (supported by Passport Seva Kendras) and 178 Indian Missions and Posts abroad.

Two other PSKs are already operational under the jurisdiction of Regional Passport Office, Delhi at Shalimar Place and Udyog Vihar, Gurgaon.

The fourth PSK will be opened shortly at the premises of RPO, Bhikaji Cama Place for bolstering facilities for passport-related services.
