India sending relief supplies to Bangladesh

New Delhi : India is rushing humanitarian relief supplies worth Rs.40 million for cyclone affected victims of Bangladesh.

The first consignment of about 40 tonnes of material including tents, blankets, medicines and ready-to-eat food packets will be despatched Thursday by an IL-76 aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) a defence ministry release said.

The decision to despatch the aid was taken Wednesday at a high-level meeting held in the defence ministry that was attended by representatives of the external affairs and home ministries.

Over 3,000 people were killed and thousands were rendered homeless in a severe cyclone that hit Bangladesh on Nov 15.
