Chandigarh : The Haryana government Tuesday announced that it has constituted a board for protection of women who are victims of rape and criminal incidents.
The board will provide financial and other assistance to victims of rape and other crimes, an official spokesman said here.
The state-level board can provide financial assistance of up to Rs.300,000 while the district level board can provide assistance up to Rs.200,000, he said.
The members of district level board would be superintendent of police, chief medical officer, district child welfare and protection officer and legal officer of the district concerned.
“Providing shelter to the victim, if needed, would also be the responsibility of district level board,” he said.
“The victims would also be provided legal assistance besides the psychological treatment. Similarly, free of cost vocational education would be provided to the victim to make her self-dependent. In case the victim felt that there were irregularities and favoritism in the investigation, she could also request the board for the change of the officer investigating her case,” the spokesman said.
He said that the term of the board would be for a period of three years. The financial assistance would be provided to the victim within 15 days as per the provisions of the scheme, he added.
