US denies Special Forces are in Sri Lanka

By IANS,

Colombo : The US embassy denied Saturday that its Special Forces were based in Sri Lanka — as claimed by a senior American military commander.

“References in the press to US Special Forces being stationed in Sri Lanka are misleading,” an embassy statement said.

“Members of the US military are assigned to work in the US embassy in Colombo as part of the engagement between the US and Sri Lanka,” it said.

It added that the embassy had contributed $9 million since 2009 toward projects such as renovating and rebuilding hospitals and schools across Sri Lanka.
