Brazzaville : More than 100 people, including three Chinese workers, were killed in an explosion Sunday at a construction site in this capital of the Republic of Congo, hospital officials said. Over 300 people were injured.
Twenty people succumbed to their injuries at Brazzaville’s Universal Hospital Centre, where about 240 others were being treated. Some 80 injured were treated at a military hospial.
Duan Jinzhu, the political counsellor of the Chinese embassy, has confirmed the deaths of the Chinese nationals. Chinese workers were also among the injured, Xinhua reported.
There were about 140 Chinese workers of the Beijing Construction Engineering Group at the site. Meanwhile, the company has evacuated about 60 of its staff.
The dormitory building of the Chinese telecom equipment manufacturer Huawei Technologies was damaged, Chinese officials said. Ten Chinese workers were in serious condition.
A Chinese medical team is taking part in the rescue work.
