Chandigarh : Of the 17 assembly results declared till noon in Punjab Tuesday, the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had won 11 and the opposition Congress six, election commission (EC) officials said here.
Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh won his Patiala assembly seat by defeating his Akali Dal rival, Surjit Singh Kohli, by 42,318 votes.
People’s Party of Punjab (PPP) president and former finance minister, Manpreet Badal lost from the Maur assembly seat. Manpreet, who had contested the Gidderbaha and Maur seats, was also trailing in the Gidderbaha seat.
