Lucknow: With the new government to assume charge on Thursday, Muslims across the state have pinned their hopes on new Samajwadi Party (SP) yuvraj Akhilesh Yadav. After their whole hearted support, the communities now hope that their social status will undergo some change.
Already branded by BSP Chief Mayawati that 70 percent of Muslims voted for SP, the community feels that Mulayam’s son will at least attend to their woes. However Mulayam has responded to the comment by announcing that he received 100 percent votes of the community which constitutes around 18% of the state population.
The only apprehension being that Muslims understand that they are left behind in the development and decisions may not be taken by the government specifically to suit their interest. If one goes by the wish list of election manifesto of SP, Muslims have been promised everything under the sky.
The first and foremost being the fact that SP has announced that it will implement all of those recommendations of Sachar Committee and Ranganathan Commission which can be done by the state government.
“For the remaining we will pressurize the central government to implement them in true letter and spirit,” said an official spokesperson of the party.
The reservation bogey is again in the middle and Muslims presume that it will not be again put on back burner only to be taken out before next election. SP has promised reservation to Muslims in proportion to their population.
About the fate of innocent Muslim youths who have been implicated in fake cases and are behind bars, the community feels that it has to live with the terror stigma through out their life. Only time will tell that how many innocent Muslims youths are released with
compensation by the new government.
At education front, Muslims want modern technical education. The new government has promised establishing schools and institutions in Muslim dominated areas.
The low ratio of Muslims in security forces is a matter of grave concern. Muslim youths are waiting for the special camps to be organized by the government for their entry in security forces. Protection of their graveyards and waqf properties is also a matter of grave concern. SP promised construction of boundaries around graveyards at government expense.
For the scholarships, Muslims have been promised many things. Rs 30000 for the Muslim girls clearing class X, setting up institute in Muslim areas etc.
Everyone is talking about the development and upliftment of the state. Muslims who constitute nearly 20 percent of the population too are now eagerly waiting at their turn of development under new regime. Only time will tell how many of the promises are fulfilled or they remain only election gimmicks.
Time is running out Akhilesh as you take oath on Thursday. Remember the state will witness another poll in 2014 and Muslims will be again there to vote which will be a litmus test for SP.
