Israeli embassy blast: Thousands gather to seek justice for Kazmi

New Delhi: Not limiting to the press conferences and issuing statements in support of arrested journalist, Mohammed Ahmed Kazmi, thousands of his supporters gathered at India Gate on Monday evening, seeking justice for journalist.

Around two thousand people gathered for the candle light vigil on an appeal made by family members. Protesters holding placards, candles and shouting slogans demanded immediate release of Mr. Kazmi. Reiterating innocence of Kazmi, the agitators said, they will intensify their movement if not released soon. A large number of members of Journalist fraternity were also presents at the vigil in solidarity.

Mr. Kazmi, a noted Urdu Journalist, who worked for Doordarshan and other news agencies including IRNA, was arrested on 6th of March by Delhi Police. The Police have alleged his involvement in providing local support in carrying out the attack on the Israeli Diplomat’s car last month.

The very next day, the police produced him before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vinod Yadav at the Tis Hazari court, from where he was sent into police custody till March 20th. However, till date, the security agencies have not presented any substantial ground for Kazmi’s arrest.

Among the prominent figures, who attended the protest march includes, Journalists Saeed Naqvi, Aziz Burney, Javed Naqvi, S K Pande, Sandeep Dixit, Dr. Zafarul Islam Khan, Prof P. Koya, Iqbal Ahmad, Harsh Dhobal; Activists, Shabnam Hashmi, Himanshu Kumar, Navaid Hamid, Harsh Kapoor; MP Mohd. Adeeb, and many others.
