Pakistan hikes train fares

Islamabad : Pakistan’s ailing railways has decided to increase passenger train fares by up to 20 percent.

Passenger train fares will go up by 15 to 20 percent March 15, Pakistan Railways said Monday.

The hike will be 20 percent for inter-city, mail and express trains, reported Dawn.

In February last year, railways had revised passenger fares.

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani in December last year directed Pakistan Railways to quickly get its locomotives repaired to improve efficiency and transportation of goods in the country.

The government had also decided to provide Rs.4 billion to revive it.
