New Delhi : Pakistan has constructed over 1,600 bunkers, towers, posts and outposts along its border with India, prompting New Delhi to lodge protests with Islamabad, the Rajya Sabha was informed Wednesday.
Defence Minister A.K. Antony said in a written reply that the government is aware of such constructions through intelligence inputs.
Pakistan, he said, has constructed 886 bunkers, 398 towers and 143 posts and outposts along the border.
“Protests have been lodged with the Pakistan Rangers and flag meetings of field commanders have been held in all cases. The matter has also been taken up by Border Security Force with Pakistan Rangers during scheduled meetings at various levels,” he said.
Antony also noted that adequate troops are suitably supplemented by appropriate surveillance and technical intelligence resources to ensure the sanctity of the border.
