Agartala : Tripura’s Left Front government wants a rollback of passenger fare hike proposed in the rail budget presented by Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi in parliament, a minister said Wednesday.
Transport and Food Minister Manik Dey demanded a rethink on the fare hike and told reporters that “like previous years, the infrastructure and industry-starved northeastern region was again ignored in the railway budget for fiscal 2012-13,”
He, however, admitted that it was a welcome development that the budget gave approval to the long-awaited railway project linking Agartala with Bangladesh’s southeastern city of Akhaurah.
“We are in the dark whether any budgetary allocation was made for the Agartala-Akhaurah railway project,” the minister said.
