Congress general secretary Birender Singh, who is incharge of Uttarakhand, said the party chief wanted to give Rawat his due but emphasised that Bahuguna had been chosen leader of the legislature party after due consideration.

He indicated that the name of Rawat’s wife Renuka was being considered for Rajya Sabha, along with some other leaders.

Rawat, minister of state for agriculture and parliamentary affairs, conveyed his unhappiness over being denied the post of chief minister.

He is the Congress MP from Haridwar. His supporters, including some legislators, have been meeting him in Delhi to convey their support to him.

Bahuguna has to prove his majority in the session of the state assembly slated for the last week of this month.
