Guwahati : A member of the Manipur-based militant outfit Peoples Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Prepak) was arrested here Tuesday, police said.
The arrested militant, identified as H. Nangkhaba, is a “sergeant major” of the outfit. He was arrested from near Guwahati Club area in the city.
The militant outfits of the northeastern region have been using Assam’s largest city as their transit base and there are several instances in the past where members of the Manipur-based insurgent outfits were arrested from Guwahati. Most of the militants stay in rented house in Guwahati in the guise of students.
“Nangkhaba is a good catch for the Guwahati police, who have been able to arrest him after more than a month of tracking. He was in Guwahati with a special mission,” said Senior Superintendent of Police (City) A.J. Baruah.
The senior official, however, refused to divulge the details of the ‘special mission’ of the militant as it might hamper the investigation.
