Ghaziabad : Police Saturday registered a criminal case against Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation staff for abducting and killing a contractor engaged in their department, following orders of a court.
The case was registered approached the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate D.D. Ojha, complaining police had dismissed her request in June last year.
Rahees Ahmed, the lawyer for the petitioner Puneeta, widow of the contractor Arun Kumar, said she had June 19, 2011, requested police to register a criminal case against 11 power corporation employees and contractors including junior engineer Sewa Ram, linemen Vijay Kumar, Richhpal, Pradeep Kumar, Pramod, Pramod Mittal, Jaivir and contractors Azad, Munna, Omvir, Suman and Nanhe.
But instead of registering the complaint, police ignored her request and wrapped up the case, he alleged.
Puneeta then moved the court, which after hearing arguments from both sides ordered a case be registered under various sections dealing with abduction, murder and criminal conspiracy of the Indian Peanl Code.
Earlier the lawyer for the petitioner Sanjay Tyagi said on June 19, 2011 the power corporation employees along with the departmental contractors abducted Arun Kumar from his house and informed his wife in the evening that the contractor met with an accident and was under treatment in local Sarvodaya Hospital.
When she reached the hospital, she was allowed to meet her husband but later informed that her husband had succumbed to his injuries. After this, she went to the police station but police did not register the case, forcing her to approach the court.
