No relief for ex-railway minister in graft case

By IANS,

New Delhi : The Delhi High Court Wednesday refused to grant a breather to former railways minister C.K. Jaffer Sharief in a corruption case and allowed the prosecution against him in a trial court.

Sharief, facing a case for misusing his office when he was railways minister, moved the high court after special judge took cognizance of the case and proceeded against him and rejected the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) closure report in the case for want of official sanction to prosecute him.

Justice M.L. Mehta rejected Sharief’s plea and said: “I find no illegality or infirmity in the impugned order of the learned Special Judge, CBI. The petition is accordingly
dismissed.”

The CBI had alleged that Sharief forced the managing directors of two public sector undertakings to sanction travel for four of his employees to London in 1995 where he had gone for a heart operation.
