In his inaugural address Mr. Ziauddin siddiqui said that the theme of the Students Conference is very timely and relevant. If we have to compete with rest of the world we have to take up English along with Urdu and other languages. He said that unfortunately, education has become commercialized and educationists have become ‘industrials of education’ forgetting the noble cause of education.

In his speech Mr. P.A Inamdar congratulated all the previous office-Bearers of SIO India who made their earnest efforts to achieve the remarkable achievement in last twenty five years. He advised the students to tackle the problems tactfully instead of emotionally facing it. He further stressed that education with English medium should be promoted. The junior college & college education should be in English medium. We will have to march towards merit alone.

Dr. D.Y. Patil stressed the need of education of rural India especially those who are not in position to go to school or college due to their financial conditions.

Mr. Sandeep Pandey founder of ‘Asha for Education’, very boldly expressed that the present day education is out of humanitarian touch, now a days, more educated people become more corrupts they are. It has been producing these people, whereas the main objectives of education should be to inculcate humanity.

Prof. Marathe, vice president, Akhil Bharati Vidhyarti Parishad (ABVP) appreciated the activities of SIO of India. While redefining education we should adopt policies such as Indianisation of education. We should demand to form National Education Commission. We should not depend totally on Govt. hence privitisation in education should be welcomed.

Prof. Milind Marathe also said while redefining education we should give emphasis on modification of syllabus, national knowledge commission, non-implementation of sex education.

Dr. Rakesh Basant, member of Sachar Committee, presented the findings of Sachar Committee and expressed his opinion that each one of us must read this Sachar Committee Report. He appreciated that present-day Muslims are doing self introspections which is a positive sign. He appealed to SIO of India to take up the issue of bringing the community in mainstream.

Mr. Claude Alvares of Goa Foundation said that college education has become so useless that we need to ‘Quit University’. We do not want better Englishman but better human beings. He questioned that are we educating our children to become MBA for just selling Cola products? The present-day education has destroyed culture of nation. The last speaker of the session was S.S. Husaini who said that the purpose of education is not to make the student as commodity but man-making education.

The theme session was concluded with the presidential address by Dr. Abdul Haque Ansari, former president of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind. Prior to his address he inaugurated the students’ manifesto of SIO. In his speech he clarified that we should understand our spiritual role as human being and education should not be just education with the purpose of earning money. Our ideal should not be Bush or Modi, instead Hazrat Abu Bakr and Umar. Our education should produce better human being rather than a graduate or post- graduate. He further said that we are observing an extreme contrast that we are talking about becoming a super power but we have poor people who are starving and living on footpaths. This session was concluded with vote of thanks.
