Kerala politician’s killers identified: Police

Thiruvananthapuram : Kerala Police Wednesday said they had identified the killers of former Communist leader T.P. Chandrasekharan and the state Congress asked the government to expose the conspirators behind the murder.

Chandrasekharan, 51, a former Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader, was killed in Onchiyam in Kozhikode Friday night. Police said he was attacked with a bomb and then killed. His face was disfigured.

“The deceased had no enemies other than the CPI-M and… all know that it is the CPI-M’s hand that is behind this cold blooded murder. The conspirators have to be brought to light,” state Congress chief Ramesh Chennithala told reporters here.

Chandrasekharan was an active CPI-M leader in his hometown Onchiyam near Kozhikode till 2008. Later he formed the Revolutionary Marxist Party which unseated his old party in village councils around his home town.

“It has also come to light that four local leaders of the CPI-M had left the place of their residence at Onchiyam a day ahead of the murder,” said Chennithala.

Director General of Police Jacob Punnoose, who reached Kozhikode Wednesday, after a meeting with officials told newsmen that the killers had been identified and now all that remained was to track down the conspirators.

Investigators continued to be tight lipped on the number of people rounded up in the case. Sources said at least nine people, including three who executed the crime, were taken into custody Wednesday near Kozhikode.

Two investigation teams were in Karnataka to trace two people who were part of the killer squad, a police source said.
