Aligarh: The President of India on Friday appointed Lt. Gen. Zameeruddin Shah as the new Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University. Shah was among the shortlisted three candidates who were approved by the AMU Court on 15th April and sent to the Visitor of AMU for selection of one of them.

Members of the high-powered AMU Court finalized a panel of three names by votes. In the voting on 15th April meeting of AMU Court, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Zameeruddin Shah had got 97 votes, Dr. Noor Mohammed, IAS (Retd.) 85 votes, Dr. Syed Khalid Rizvi, IPS 83 votes, SM Ashraf, Income Tax Commissionr, Dehi, got 49 votes and AA Siddiqui, IPS got 31 votes. A list of top three candidates were sent to Visitor of AMU, President of India, for nomination of one of them as the VC.
