The report, however, did not clearly state which verdict the prosecutor general will appeal against, Xinhua reported.

On Saturday, the presiding judge Ahmed Refaat announced Mubarak and former interior minister Habib Adli had been sentenced to life terms for their role in the killing of protesters during the uprising against Mubarak’s rule.

Refaat acquitted Adli’s six assistants.

The verdict came after 49 sessions over the past 10 months.

In a land deal case involving Mubarak, his sons Alaa and Gamal, and businessman Hussein Salem, the court said the charges had passed the 10-year period for legal action.

Mubarak was also acquitted in another case of abuse of power.
