Congress going through a ‘lull’ period in Goa: MP

By IANS,

Panaji : Former chief minister and Congress MP Francisco Sardinha Thursday defended his party’s inability to take the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government head on in Goa, saying it was going through a “lull period” following a drubbing in the March assembly elections.

“When any party loses… there is a lull period. It will take two to three months more before the Congress will come back rejuvenated and perform its duty as the Opposition. A new broom sweeps better,” Sardinha, Lok Sabha MP from the South Goa constituency told reporters here.

The local media has been criticising the Congress for abdicating the role of the opposition over the last three months, since it lost power to the BJP-led coalition government.

Sardinha, chairman of the parliamentary estimates committee, said the Congress lost power because of misgovernance, lack of decision-making and its inability to handle the illegal mining issue.
