Ahmedabad : Essar Energy Friday said the second unit of the 2X600 MW Salaya-I power plant in Gujarat has begun commercial operations.
The Mumbai-based firm had launched commercial operations at the first unit of the coal-fired project in April.
With this, Essar Energy’s total installed operational power generation capacity has gone up to 2,800 MW.
Most of the power generated at the $1.1 billion Salaya-I will be sold to the Gujarat State Electricity Corp. under a long-term contract, an official statement said here.
Essar Energy chief executive Naresh Nayyar said Salaya-I is one of the three power projects due to be commissioned by the company this year.
The other two are 1,200 MW Mahan-I and 510 MW Vadinar-P2 projects.
Together, these three projects (Salaya-I, Mahan-I and Vadinar-P2) would add 2,910 MW and take Essar Enegy’s total installed capacity to 4,510 MW, Nayyar said.
