New Delhi : The Congress Friday expressed the hope that all political parties would support the candidature of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) presidential nominee Pranab Mukherjee.
“I hope all the political parties will support Pranab Mukherjee,” Congress spokesman Janardan Dwivedi told media persons soon after UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi announced Mukherjee’s candidature.
He said Mukherjee with his vast experience of international affairs, economic affairs and political affairs was the best-suited candidate for the post.
“Every one knows his role in the UPA-I and UPA-II and he has dealt with every political party,” Dwivedi added
To a query whether Mulayam Singh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party endorsed Mukherjee’s candidature, he said: “The Samajwadi Party has supported the government in the past also.”
