Advani, Sethi enter semis at billiards meet

Bangalore : Pankaj Advani and Geet Sethi moved closer to a possible title showdown as the two former World champions sailed into the semi-finals of the ECA-Raman Nair handicap billiards tournament here Thursday.

Advani made light of a handicap of 900 points to rout D. Rajkumar 150-0 aided by breaks of 350, 187 and 257 unfinished while Sethi, conceding 400 points in arrears, was in an equally imperious form while outclassing Vishal Madan 150-103 as the maestro notched breaks of 494, 154 and 113.

In the other two quarter-finals, Balachandra Bhaskar (-900) defeated women’s World champion Uma Devi (-300) 150-0 with two century breaks (127, 163) and Dhruv Sitwala (-900) overcame Bharat Chugh (-300) 150-70 with runs of 132 and 144.

The semi-final ties to be played later in the day, pits Advani against Sitwala while Sethi takes on Bhaskar while the final is scheduled for Friday.

Quarter-finals: Dhruv Sitwala (- 900) bt Bharat Chugh (- 300) 150 – 70; Pankaj Advani (- 900) bt D Rajkumar (- 500) 150 – 0; Geet Sethi (- 900) bt Vishal Madan (- 500) 150 – 103; Balachandra Bhaskar (- 900) bt Uma Devi (- 300) 150-0.
