Thiruvananthapuram: The UPA’s presidential candidate, Pranab Mukherjee, will win more than 70 percent of votes, union Home Minister P. Chidambaram said Wednesday.
“By now, he has already got 65 percent of the votes and shortly, this figure will cross 70 percent. We really wished that he should have been elected unopposed, but anyway now that’s not possible. Now, let there be a fair and square election,” said Chidambaram.
Chidambaram along with his cabinet colleagues Ambika Soni and Salman Khurshid arrived in this Kerala capital city Wednesday to take part in a media interaction arranged by the Press Information Bureau as the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government completed its third year in office.
When asked about the support extended by the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), he said that he congratulated the CPI-M for extending their support to Pranab Mukherjee.
