Kolkata: After 34 years of Left Front, and one year of the TMC government not much seems to have changed for Muslims when it comes to representation in government jobs.
On June 29, 2012, West Bengal Public Service Commission has been published names of 651 recommended to be appointed in different departments in Government of West Bengal. Only 23 Muslims are on this list making a 3.5% of the total. State Government declaration that Muslims will get 10% reservation within the OBC category has also been neglected.
West Bengal Public Service Commission declared the final recruitment list for different section of the State Government on June 29, 2012 vide Memo No: A-95-PSC(A) and have been recommended for appointment to different posts & services on the result of the Miscellaneous Services Recruitment, 2009.
According to government rules in West Bengal total 17% seats reserved for Government jobs. 7% for B category OBC and 10% for A category OBC. Among the recruits 651 candidates OBC are 69, which is 10.5%. Hindu & other OBC enlisted 67 and only two comes from Muslim OBC.
