Rajasthan signs MoUs worth over Rs.600 billion

Jaipur(IANS) : The Rajasthan government has inked 20 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) worth over Rs.600 billion ($15 billion) at the Resurgent Rajasthan Partnership Summit 2007 currently underway here.

The two-day summit has been organised to showcase investment opportunities in the state. Attended by over 700 delegates, the event is partnered by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci).

Cairn India Ltd signed an MoU worth Rs.100 billion to build upstream oil and gas development facilities and related power plant in Barmer district of the state.

Reliance Industries Ltd inked three MoUs worth Rs.135 billion with the state government that include establishing a gas grid in Rajasthan to supply natural gas in 25 cities.

Hindustan Zinc also signed an MoU for Rs.63 billion for expansion of mining and milling activities, along with setting up of new lead and zinc smelting plants at Chanderiya in Rajasthan.

Suzlun Gujarat Wind Park Ltd entered into an MoU for setting up of wind farms with total capacity of 1,140 MW at a cost of Rs.49 billion.

In tourism, MoUs amd letters of intent to the tune of Rs.50.44 billion were signed.

Among the MOUs signed in tourism, the largest project in terms of investment was for an amusement park worth Rs.14 billion on Ajmer Road. The rest of the projects are for hotels, resorts and spas.

In real estate, one of the largest projects was from Fire Capital Fund Investments Mauritius, the country’s first private equity fund for real estate.

The company signed an MoU to construct around 2,000 acres of integrated township at Jaipur.

Strategically located on the Jaipur-Ajmer Highway, the $1.25-billion (Rs.49.5 billion) township will be one of the largest in terms of size and foreign direct investment in the region.
