New Delhi: A special court here Saturday sent to judicial custody two men allegedly involved in a bid to get a student admitted fraudulently into a dental surgery course.
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Special Judge Anu Malhotra sent Amit Kapoor and Vinay Kumar to judicial custody till Aug 4.
They were arrested July 18 and on the next day sent to the CBI’s custody for two days.
Kapoor owns an educational consultancy institute in north Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh. He was arrested over an alleged bid to fraudulently get Nayan Goel admitted to a dental surgery course for which an entrance test was held June 9.
Nayan Goel and his father Arun Goel, a private medical practitioner, were also arrested Wednesday. On July 19, they were sent to judicial custody till Aug 1.
The probe agency Saturday requested the court to grant them the custody of Kapoor and Vinay Kumar for five more days to confront them with the details of their telephone calls to other accused.
The court asked the agency to place on record the transcripts of the telephonic conversation between the accused.
According to the CBI, Arun Goel, who runs a clinic in Ashok Vihar in north Delhi, approached Kapoor for the admission of his son in a Bachelor of Dental Surgery course in a Delhi college.
Kapoor and other suspects illegally arranged for admission of Nayan Goel to the course by using a dummy candidate in the written examination held June 9. For this, Kapoor allegedly charged an amount of Rs.30 lakh, the CBI said.
“The doctor paid Rs.10 lakh after his son was declared successful in the entrance examination. The remaining amount was to be paid after confirmation of admission during counselling July 18,” a CBI official said.
