This is second incident of escape from the centre over the past 10 days, they added.

According to the police, the incident took place at the Juvenile Detention and Reform Centre situated in the city’s Transport Nagar area late Thursday night.

“A function had been organised at the centre on the occasion of Rakhi festival. The juveniles had the special dinner prepared for them on this occasion and left the centre’s mess,” said a police officer.

It was then that the six juveniles, who were being kept in the centre on charges of murder, robbery and theft, suddenly came out of their rooms, overpowered two security men and escaped.

“The juveniles had seen the centre’s iron gate open as some staff was leaving and took advantage of the situation,” said the officer.

The centre authorities registered a FIR with police Friday morning.

“Teams have been rushed to various places in their search,” said the officer.
