Result satisfying, NDA intact: Jaswant Singh

New Delhi : BJP leader Jaswant Singh, who lost the vice presidential race to incumbent Hamid Ansari Tuesday, said he was satisfied with the result which showed that the NDA was intact.

“I am satisfied with the result…the arithmetic has shown that the NDA is intact and attracted other votes,” he told reporters after the result was announced late Tuesday evening.

According to Jaswant Singh, who was the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance’s candidate, the alliance gained in the vice presidential poll.

The ruling United Progressive Alliance nominee Ansari defeated him by 252 votes. While Ansari polled 490 votes, Jaswant Singh got 238.

Jaswant Singh thanked his party colleague Sushma Swaraj for the way she managed his campaign.

“Without her, this result would not have been possible,” he said.

Jaswant Singh congratulated Ansari on his re-election as the vice president and said he will cooperate with him in his role as the chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
